Hi fellow book lovers! December is my birthday month, so I thought to celebrate I’d do a Meeting the Blogger tag to celebrate since I haven’t done one before.
We have a tree, but it’s in a sad state right now lol. We have a small fake pre-lit tree that’s about 2 feet tall. It doesn’t have any decorations on it just yet because we’re slowing introducing the kittens to it again. Last year they were so small in curious about everything that they (Ash mostly – little grey one) managed to get tangled up in the lights. So the hope this year it to introduce it from far away (in the picture below they can reach it, but it takes effort), then move it closure (right now it’s on a table beside this green chair), with the hopes of finally moving it downstairs where they play all the time. So far the plan has been working – they don’t seem very interested in it anymore – no more than a couple of sniffs when it moved closure.
When it goes up varies depending on a lot of things. Some years I haven’t had time and just don’t put it up. Other years, like this year, I try to have it up by December 1st. Typically, we don’t have Christmas at our house, so having the tree up for festivities isn’t the highest priority – hence the “it depends” answer lol. I do find I’m more in the Christmas-y mood when I put the tree up at the beginning of the month. Based on that explanation you can likely tell that I decorate the tree – my husband has tried to help, but I end up pushing him out of the way lol. The tree kind of has a theme lol. I put up red balls and retro-style Santa decorations that I’ve collected – and the odd hodgepodge of decorations that can fit on this tiny tree (decorations owned could fit on our original size tree – 6 ft I think).
This is both a yes and a no lol. I don’t enjoy singing in front of people so if you want me to go Christmas Caroling – the answer will be no. If you just want to put Christmas music on, for the most part it’ll be yes – just don’t over play it and give me some breaks lol. I don’t know if I have a particular set of Christmas music that I love – or holiday music for that matter, but I do love Santa Baby. I just like the smoky-jazz-ness of the vocals. Otherwise, just throw on any one with a 90s pop star singing lol.
I haven’t read many – reading more this year – but here are the ones I’ve read this year and loved and some that are on my December TBR.

December 2021 TBR
As you can see I have a fair number of holiday reads I’m hoping to get to this month – somehow! So hopefully next year I’ll have more favourites to share with you.
Oh I have so many that I love watching, but can I pick out just one favourite?! Nope. So here are some holiday specials/movies that I loved watching as a kid.
Christmas Cake (& Cookies)
Umm no? I’ve tried it a couple times here and there because my dad loves it. But sadly it just isn’t for me lol. Christmas cookies though! I love sugar cookies and the gingerbread people that my mother in law makes! Give me all the Christmas baked goods, except for Christmas Cake actually lol.
Chocolate, Nuts or Fruit?
If I have to pick just one, then it’s a no brainer! Chocolate 100%! I love chocolate covered cherries the most at Christmas time – my mom has a tradition of buying a couple of boxes: one for Christmas day and one for me to bring home.
For nuts, I love walnuts. That’s it lol. I actually don’t enjoy a lot of nuts and it’s very specific on when I enjoy them and how – I know very weird.
Fruit? Umm…. sure? Is it odd that I don’t associate fruit with Christmas. I like fruit so I’d eat it if it’s available lol.
I have a couple of traditions I guess. Christmas Eve is spent with my in-laws where we have a Sheppard’s Feast (fancy cheese board with foods similar to what the Sheppards would have ate). Christmas Day is spent with my family and we have a big “traditional” Christmas Dinner – mashed potatoes, carrots, stuffing, turkey (although we’ve been doing chicken lately – just enjoy it more) and some kind of pie dessert. Most of my family traditions revolve around food lol.
What’s on the Table?
We’ll kind of answered this but more food details lol.
- Goats cheese
- Old cheddar
- Random “risky” cheese – try something new
- Pomegranate seeds
- Naan bread
- Usually one main dish with sea food
- Turkey (or Roast Beef or Chicken)
- Mashed Potatoes
- Cauliflower (or brussel sprouts – basically second random veg)
- Salad (garden usually)
- Slices of Cheese
- Dessert of some kind (pies, crumbles)
- Choclate treat
So the other two blogs I saw the answers and they were so good – specific, non-boring memories.
I don’t have any of those. Mine are typically the same every year – just time and place where I wake up have changed. One year I remember getting a small TV for my room(16 I think), another year I remember getting a bike (10??), and another year I think my brother and I got a game gear (random guess is 12 because I did not get it when it was released since my brother wasn’t born yet and I know he had to at least be 6-7 lol).
I like our normal traditions, but one year I would absolutely love to spend Christmas in either the UK or France. They just look like they have such pretty celebrations and markets.
All I want for Christmas is…
Ok this is going to sound basic and not like a Christmas wish at all but… I’d love to just have a day of peace and no stress! All I want is time off from work and prepping and stressing. That’s it lol.
What’s your Christmas wish?
