Odds & Ends: End of the Year Book Tag 2021

I can’t believe we’re already nearing the end of November! This year has flown by!

I’ve finally planned well enough that I can actually participate in the End of Year Book Tag this year! Thankfully, Megan from Megwithbooks did it early enough to remind me lol. I’ve got a cat in my lap so it looks like I’m here for the long haul – let’s see just how well I’m doing!

are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

Well I technically have two books on the go, but I would need to restart them since I started near the beginning of the year: Spark to Shadow by Atima Kim & The Immortal Game by Talia Rothschild and A C Harvey. Both I was loving, but had to get another book done and then they just ended up pushing them for too long lol. Still really interested in them and I was enjoying them both, just…. “priorities” lol

do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

I guess my current read would count lol: The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling.

is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

I have a few- most that you’ll see Monday…. but one that wont be on that list that I’m excited for is The Scratch Daughters by Hannah Abigail Clarke, sequel to Scapegracers.

what are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

Interestingly, I’m participating in 2021 TBR BINGO hosted by Ell’s Book Nook on Instagram. Ell started this BINGO at the beginning of November, and I only learned about it around November 12th. This challenge has you pick 20 books you want to finish by the end of the year (a couple of these I’ve completed since the 12th). If you finish all 20 then you’ll be entered into a giveaway. So here are the 20 books I want to finish by the end of the year.

Books from Left to Right:
House of Earth and Blood, Honest June, Vespertine, XOXO, Fire Keeper’s Daughter, Passport,
Once Upon a Broken Heart, Empire of the Vampire, The Ex Hex, Rule of Wolves,
The Holiday Switch, Secret Santa, What Kind of Girl, A Psalm of Storms and Silence, The Ones We’re Meant to Find ,
Hate You More, Gods of Jade and Shadown, Gods & Monsters, A Life Turned Upside Down, and The Third Wife.

is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?

I’m sure it could happen, but my top 3 have been there for most of the year. One that has a chance is Empire of the Vampire, possibly Once Upon a Broken Heart.

Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber

have you already started making reading plans for next year?

Yes – I love making lists and plans…. it’s the follow through lol

Here are a couple I’m thinking about:

  • Read Completed Series – I really want to focus on completing a few series – still have to work on the exact number for this goal
  • Read Subscription Box Books – I have so many of these that I haven’t read (including completed series) and with me planning on joining FairyLoot’s Adult box they’ll be adding up even faster – exact goal number is still being work on, but 24 sounds like a great number at the moment lol
  • Read more “Last Chance Books” – I’ve have a number of books I’ve separated out as “Last Chance Books”. These are books that I’ve lost interest in, but want to try before unhauling or are thrillers that I will likely read than give to my mom or friend (similar idea to Becca’s Unhaul TBR Cart) – let’s just pretend I have a reasonable number goal here lol
  • Tackle more ARCS – I have a horrible ration on Netgalley and I would love to improve it next year. With these other goals I don’t know what a reasonable ratio increase would be, but right now I’m at 24% 🙊🙈 and I would love to see 50% (but realistically can I read and review a minimum of 76 books next year?!?!?)

So that’s it. Not too bad for my first End of the Year Book Tag! I know if I had looked back in past years it likely would’ve been worse lol.

How’s your end of year looking?

  1. Looks like you have alot of great reads to choose from.
I saw a challenge on Instagram where you have to read 20 books on your shelf before getting to buy any new ones so I´ll think I go with that challenge to be honest.
