Odds & Ends: Bookish Wheel of Emotions

I saw Jade at Jadeyraereads do a book recommendation based off the Wheel of Emotions for VEDA and thought it was a cute idea to try. Be sure to check out Jade’s video too! I plan on recommending 8 books that fit the 8 core colours: Joy, Trust, Fear, Surprise, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, and Anticipation (see image below).

Joy: A Book that Brought Me Pure Job

I can’t help it!, Heartstopper by Alice Oseman (all of them) just fills me with joy! It’s like reading happiness.

Trust: An Author you Trust

I immediately fell in love with the Blood and Ash Series and loved her standalone, Don’t Look Back. I trust her to give me a quick, entertaining read. I trust her to give me smut when reading her romances and in suspense when reading a mystery.

Fear: A Book You’re Intimidated By

I couldn’t tell you why Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke intimidates me other than the sheer size of it! It’s over 1,000 pages (1,006 to be exact, according to Goodreads). It’s a brick with tiny, tiny font and it’s fantasy.

Surprise: A Book that Surprised You

I hadn’t read anything by Tiffany D Jackson before, but had been interested in everything that she had written. I got an ARC of Grown by Tiffany D Jackson, but hadn’t been able to get to it before the release date. I had been trying to play catch up last year (who am I kidding, still am) so I decided to pick up the audiobook. I had expected to enjoy it, but I was blown away by just how good it was! You can find my review for it here.

Sad: A Book or Series that has a Sad Overtone

There are plenty of books that made me sad/ugly cry, but this one was tragic. On the Horizon by Lois Lowry is a nonfiction historical book told through poetry and includes illustrations. The amount of emotion that Lowry was able to put into the story was astounding. She did a great job at honouring those lost during the two events, Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima.

Disgust: A Book that is just not for you (aka your book broccoli)

Yeah, sorry, just no interested in A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. Sold as a Nonfiction to later find out that it was fiction, just not something I want to waste my time on. Kind of like broccoli as a kid – never tried it, but don’t like it lol.

Anger: A Book that made you Angry

I know I have read books that angered me, usually the characters being idiots lol. In this case, I actually ended up DNFing (Did Not Finish) it because the characters were infuriating. I think I got one chapter in and decided it was in everyone’s best interest if I just didn’t continue.

Anticipation: A Book that You Are Highly Anticipating

Although I have an entire list of Highly Anticipating books coming out in 2021, I had to pick XOXO by Axie Oh! I even bought the exclusive edition from Fairyloot!

So that’s it, my 8 books based of the Wheel of Emotions. Have you read any? What would you have picked?
