After a horrifying public rejection by her crush, Ellie Nichols does what any girl would do: she flees the country. To be more precise, she joins her high school’s study abroad trip to England. While most of her classmates are there to take honors courses and pad their college applications, Ellie is on a quest to rebuild her reputation and self-confidence. And nothing is more of a confidence booster than getting a hot British boyfriend.
When Ellie meets Will, a gorgeous and charming Brit, she vows to avoid making the same mistakes as she did with the last guy she liked. Which is why she strikes up a bargain with Dev, an overachieving classmate who she’s never clicked with, but who does seem to know a lot about the things Will is interested in—if he helps her win over her crush, then she’ll help him win over his.
But even as Ellie embarks on a whirlwind romance, one that takes her on adventures to some of England’s most beautiful places, she still needs to figure out if this is actually the answer to all her problems…and whether the perfect boyfriend is actually the perfect boy for her.
Top 5 Reasons to Read Hot British Boyfriend
I LOVE London and miss it so much! I was nostalgic for all the places they stopped in England, especially London. I was there many years ago, but this book reminded me of so many places I saw and wished I could have ventured.
Oh Italy! Another place I miss and wish I could go back to. They mention museums I never got to go to and the canals where I got to go on gondola rides/boat rides – the pasta and gelato, yum! It is so beautiful there and oddly peaceful despite the number of people. I remember feeling lost in the maze-like alleys in Venice and hidden stores. This book had me remembering my Europe trip (UK/Italy) hard!
Fun Friend Group
OMG Ellie’s friends are adorable! I wanted to learn so much about them. I needed more about Sage and her dream to be in medicine (and her backstory!). I wanted to follow Huan and Frank EVERYWHERE – well at least on the adorable dates I decided they went on. I wanted more about Dev, his family, his struggles! Really, I would pick up the companion novels about these three (a book for each one) in a heartbeat!
Besides the travel nostalgia that I was experience, there were a number of pop culture nostalgic references (or at least what I have come to lump in as nostalgic). HP references galore! which really isn’t surprising, being in England and all. Of course the required Jane Austin references throughout, which added to the cuteness.
Boarding School Setting
Boarding schools are my go to settings – really if a book tells me the main characters are going away to a boarding school – or school abroad or remote school – well I instantly want to pick it up. I can’t remember a boarding school setting that I haven’t liked – and this one was no exception. Plus, this school sound INCREDIBLE! What school can you go to that has a conservatory with a pond inside!?!!? I wish they had done more exploring and found more secrets – but I guess there are only so many pages lol. If this is a real place I NEED to add it to my travel plans when I go back to the UK.
