Goodreads Synopsis:  Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.

Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.

Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.

Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.

The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.

My Thoughts

First off, I listened to the audiobook for this and I highly recommending it!  This didn’t feel like a book, but a podcast or radio interview.  It is also has a full cast!

While listening too this I couldn’t stop! It was 9 hours, and for 9 hours I was listening to this! I had work to do, but I couldn’t put this down.  I kept saying only another 30 minutes and after each 30 minutes I kept going.  You start to feel like these people are real, that you could go onto YouTube or iTunes and find all their songs and listen to them on repeat!  Unfortunately, this is all fiction and you wont find their songs anywhere – although at the end of the audio there are instrumental renditions of one of the song – I really wish they had someone sing though.

Ok now about the story…. it is amazing! You follow Daisy Jones and The Six… which by the way are two different entities!  We find out a little bit about Daisy’s family history and how she got started as a singer.  She is beautiful, but underestimated and misunderstood.  We then learn about The Six and how they started.  I love the fact that they are two brothers and learning how the group grows.

The dynamics between The Six is so interesting.  I loved finding out about the members and their relationships between one another, both before the band and after.  Learning about Daisy’s career from start to present time was just so interesting.

It’s really hard to talk about this book and why I loved it so much with out spoilers, so I’m sorry if this is short and doesn’t give you much.  This is definitely something you want to experience on your own.  The twist at the end is amazing and the reasoning behind the story as a whole made me so sad/cry.

This will definitely be on my top 10 for 2019!  I highly recommend it, and can’t recommend it enough.
