Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This week’s Top Ten is about Unpopular Bookish Opinions. So here we go, don’t hate me 🙂
1. I DNF’d An Abundance of Katherines by John Green
I know John Green is a very popular author, but I couldn’t get through An Abundance of Katherines. I managed to force myself through about 100 pages, but just couldn’t finish it. I’ve been afraid to read anything else by John Green.
2. I didn’t like We Were Liars by E Lockhart
I found it predictable and wasn’t impressed by the ending. It felt too sitcom.
3. I get stressed thinking about Unhauling
Yes I unhaul some books, but thinking about it stresses me out. I love having all the books – but to be honest, I’m running out of room lol
4. Organizing books by Genre bugs me
I’ve had my books sorted by Genre for a year or so now and it’s bothered me for about a year lol. I really wanted to go back to alphabetical order by author, but resorting just overwhelmed me. I’m doing it now – because I’ve built more shelves – but just doing the process is just SO MUCH!
5. I love all the tropes!
Ok maybe I have a hard time picking out the majority of “tropes”, but when they’re listed to me I can’t seem to think of any that I don’t enjoy – I challenge you to list one for me that I should hate!
6. I’m not big on dragons
I’ve only read a few books with dragons in it, but I just don’t get it. Maybe I haven’t read the right ones yet – I keep trying.
7. I hated Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
I know so many people who loved this book – but I really just didn’t get it.
8. I have no clue what Hogwarts House I am and I don’t know if I care
I just randomly pick one when I’m supposed to pick a house for group reads or challenges. I could do a test, but when you haven’t read more than Book 1, what’s the point?
9. I fall asleep while reading Classics
No matter how hard I try, reading classics puts me to sleep. I have finished some, but it takes me way, way longer than it should. For example, Alice and Wonderland (which I loved) took me a week because I would take mini naps in between.
10. I watch Unhaul videos on Booktube to get book ideas
Yup, that’s right. I watch videos about books being unhauled so I can pick those titles up later at thrift stores. I have no clue why – sometimes the premise sounds good, some times I’m reminded of books I use to want to read but have forgotten about, sometimes it’s just a weird need.
Well, there you go. Ten Unpopular Bookish Opinions – well I think.
What about you? Do you agree with any of these? Or do you have some that you want to share?
~Heather
I absolutely love that you watch Booktube unhaul videos to get book ideas because I do this too!!

Unhaul videos are a huge help! It makes me not read those books and not waste my time on them because they might end up meh! 🤣

Yeah sometimes I avoid those books, other times I’m like ooh that sounds interesting lol

I’m sort of impressed that you were able to sort your bookshelves alphabetically to start with. I think that would drive me buggy, only because I’d have to keep constantly shuffling them every time I added a new one, rather than just inserting it in its genre. xD
Oh noooo, I could totally live with all your other opinions, but not liking dragons?! *clutches pearls and gasps*
Here’s my TTT post.

Haha yeah I know I love the idea of Dragons, but I think I havent found the right books yet. Any recommendations?

Well, I loved Smaug in The Hobbit, but I know people struggle getting through that one. There’s A Natural History of Dragons. Terry Pratchett’s Guards! Guards! has dragons. Uhhh … it’s too early to think. xD The Priory of the Orange Tree is supposed to have a dragon, but I just bought it and haven’t read it, so I don’t know how it is yet.

I feel like a lot of people find classics hard to read but read them anyway to seem sophisticated lol I do like some classics, but I don’t read them often and they’re definitely harder to connect to. Which makes sense because the language is different, the mindset is different and the ideas peo0le had about writing were different.

I like so many of these. I also didn’t LOVE We Were Liars– even though E. Lockhart is one of my all-time faves. I also saw the ending coming and have had it pulled on me too many times already. I give Perks a little more credit than I should because it’s a Pittsburgh book and that’s where I grew up. But I didn’t LOVE it either 😦 And I got new shelved recently as well– sorting and organizing is such a PROCESS when we’re talking about as many books as we have. I’m trying to do a rainbow (with separate areas for my fave authors and series & retro books).

It is SUCH a process and tiring! I LOVE rainbow shelves but I’m never happy with my own results – I love everyone else’s lol

What’s your favourite unhaul video? I’ve never been able to get into them, but now I’m curious. 🙂

The Booktuber that I can think of that I loved her unhauls was BooksandLala. She does a year’s worth of closet unhauls and she does a bit of a twist to it that I havent seen others do.

Thank you 😊 I’d love to try more but I’m honestly afraid to at times because I know it takes me so long and I fall asleep (and let’s be honest, some go over my head lol). But I really should try some more.

Katherines was my least favorite John Green book and I only liked parts of We Were Liars. I didn’t hate either book, but there were issues for me, too.
I also love most tropes. They don’t bother me the way they do with other people.

I wasn’t a big fan of Perks either—it was … strange. And, yeah, I sometimes I fall asleep reading classics. Oops!
