March TBR, Challenges and More

Sorry this is a couple days behind, I’ve only recently finalized my TBR – although we all know that this isn’t a truly finalized TBR since my mood plays a big part in my reading.

That being said, I may have been over ambitious again.  Last month I had hoped to read 9 books.  I did read 7, but only 4 were part of the TBR (1 of those was DNF’d).  This month, I have 3 graphic novels, 2 arcs, and 8 physical books!  Of course, this is a hope and a dream, but since I’m participating in a couple of reading challenges, a book club, and a Read-a-thon, it may be slightly more likely than I had originally thought while pulling these together.  OK, so let’s break this down…

TBR Pile

Owned Books

Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo
Beauty Queens by Libba Bray

Library Books

By Your Side by Kasie West
Beauty and the Beast: Lost in a Book by Jennifer Donnelly
Odd & True by Cat Winters
Spellbook of the Lost and Found by Moïra Fowley-Doyle
Front Lines by Michael Grant (Bookclub read)
Saga Vol 8 by Brian K. Vaughan
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Vol 7 & Vol 8 by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

Books to Review

The Lost Girls of Camp Forevermore by Kim Fu (Release Date: Feb 13)
The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw (Release Date: Mar 6)

Read-a-Thon (March 2-4)

So I committed myself to my first Read-a-thon.  The one I had planned on doing last month didn’t work out time-wise.  This month I will be participating in TBR and Beyond’s Weekend Read-a-thon, hosted by the Facebook Group TBR and Beyond.  It is scheduled for March 2 at 12pm to Marchh 4th.  I started at 7:30pm on March 2nd and I will try to pay attention to where I stop at 7:30pm to keep within the 48 hours.

I have no set TBR for this Read-a-thon and there were no specific challenges towards it.  So I’ve just been pulling from my TBR pile at random (sort-of).

My initial plan was to read my graphic novels first (which I did) then grab a couple of easy reads to get through as much as possible before time was up.  I will do a full update sometime this week to see how I did.

Reading Challenges

I have two Reading Challenges this month.  I will attempt to complete as much as possible – again with an update at the end.

Women’s History Month Bingo (March 1-31)

So the first Reading Challenge is a Bingo held by Facebook Group Life & Lit.  This is a month long reading challenge where you can fill two squares for every book that fits those categories.  For example, Saga Vol 8 would fit under Graphic Novel with Female Main Character and Mom Goals.  Below is the Bingo Sheet, please join the group and join us for this Reading Challenge!

Current Plan

Queer Women – Spellbook of the Lost & Found
Women in Power
Women of Colour (MC or Author)
Book with a Queen
Female Friendship – Crooked Kingdom
Girls Who Fight – Front Line
Based on Real Women
Mom Goals – Saga Vol 8
Girls with Flaws
Magical Women – Chilling Adventure of Sabrina Vol 7 & 8
Goddess/Supergirl – Wonder Woman: Warbringer
Graphic Novel w/ Female MC – Saga Vol 8
Girl in Love – By Your Side
Female Villan -Beauty Queens
Female Mythical Creature – Odd & True

So at the moment I’m missing 6 squares, but I’m hoping as I read I can place some in there.  I’m having an issue with “Girls with Flaws” – what defines a flaw? Societal flaw? Because in that case I could count By Your Side since she has an anxiety disorder, but I don’t think of mental issues as a flaw. Personality flaw? I’m guessing this one and it may be easier to find this one after I read the book – find a female character that I don’t really like.  I don’t know – I’m assuming I will figure it out as I go or get hints as others complete it.

Badass Book Bitches Event (March 1-31)

Badass Book Bitches Event is held by TBR & Beyond and is another month long challenge.  This one is a word search puzzle.  You read a book then find a word that best suits it (well you’d actually have the word in mind before reading it).  Once you’ve read the book you can cross (highlight) the word to mark as done.  You can use one book for two words, but so far I’m having a hard time covering that – so it may end up being one word per book.  Join this group as well and join this challenge too!  I’m finding I can do a fair amount of overlap between the two challenges if you’re worried about over committing.

Current Plan

Battle – Front Lines
Blue – Beauty Queens
Hyped – Crooked Kingdom
Magic – Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Vol 7 & 8/ Spellbook of the Lost & Found
Witch – Spellbook of the Lost & Found
Romance – By Your Side
Villain – Beauty Queens
Leader – Crooked Kingdom
Sassy – Saga Vol 8
Violent – Crooked Kingdom

I am clearly missing more on this challenge than the Bingo (Double to be exact – 12), but I’m hoping as I read I will be able to fill in more.  Again, there may be more cheat on this one – well getting very helpful hints from others.

Well that’s it for the plan.  I’m going to try to get to as many as I can over the month – maybe dedicating more time to reading – definitely need to work on my time management and scheduling since I’m finding working from home has really challenged that one.

Let me know what your March reading plans are.  Do you have any challenges going on during the month? Do you set a TBR or just pick from a random stack?

But that’s enough for now.  It’s time to get back to reading – loosing valuable Read-a-thon time 😉

Until next time fellow readers.
